An unforgettable experience crossing canal locks, going through a 375-meter long river tunnel, sailing next to the UNESCO World Heritage Vauban monuments, and visiting the old town up to the Citadel….
The petite train pick-up point, in a parking lot near a row of restaurants housed in quaint old buildings, looks unimposing. However, the moment you pass through the first old city gate and enter historical Besancon, the magic begins. The train is the best way to get an inside, intimate, and efficient view of the old city. The train ride goes past all points of interest and is the only sane way to get to the Citadel, a UNESCO heritage site honoring the military engineering genius of Vauban. The price was reasonable and well worth the modest investment.
– Carol E., TripAdvisorThis trip can be combined with the Petit Train ticket which allows you to get to the Citadel, relax en route and then see the city in its entirety from the water. If you only have a short stay in Besançon do not miss this trip! You will see the Citadel high above you and really appreciate the loop of the river whilst sailing through a canal under a mountain. This is a must do excursion.
– W S, TripAdvisorA definite day trip not to be missed. The scenery is absolutely stunning and the guides on board do talk English. The Walk to the Waterfall isn't too far, and it's lovely walking past lots of wooden lodges selling various items. The Waterfall is absolutely stunning, the cascading waters make it really peaceful and serene.
